Since our launch as a company in 2009 we’ve established a track record of being a responsible developer of Canada’s energy resources. In the past year, we increased our oil sands holdings and added natural gas and liquids assets following a significant acquisition.

At Cenovus we realize that we have a responsibility to manage our activities in the areas where we operate to create a positive impact for both the community and the business. We're striving to ensure the communities where we live and work are stronger and better off as a result of us being there. In the accompanying photo, our President & Chief Executive Officer Alex Pourbaix participated in a recent Community Investment event in support of I Can For Kids.

So as you can see, we’re about giving more than just a cheque. We tailor our investment decisions to the needs of each community we are working with based on our guidelines and focus areas. It’s not just about financial donations. Some of the ways we invest are through creating programs, giving in-kind support, sharing ideas, or hosting and supporting events. We also look for ways for our employees and their families to get involved through our giving and volunteering programs.

We’re committed to responsible development of the oil sands in northern Alberta and that means understanding our impact on the environment. That’s why we’re using 135 remote cameras and 75 sound recording units to improve our knowledge around which animals are near our operations and how they interact with our facilities.

These cameras and audio recording units give us a large data set from which to draw information and contribute to better-informed development decisions. These new monitoring techniques also reduce the amount of field-based human monitoring required, which reduces safety risks and disturbance to animals within our project areas.
