I worked at British Heart Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros -

    - All staff were friendly and great
    - Everybody assisted each other wherever if needed
    - It was always busy, never sitting around (made the day go faster)
    - Once you get into the routine, you begin to get more efficient.
    - Always good meeting new volunteers and making new friends.

    - It seemed like common sense was thrown out of the window sometimes. You could suggest ideas that in theory would make sense and be helpful but because it went against company protocol it was not allowed:

Example: The BHF accepts all sorts of electronics, one of them being refrigerators and of course not all of these refrigerators work. After a while, these refrigerators begin to stockpile to such an extent, they take up a considerable amount of space in the (already tiny space) of a warehouse. I suggested that to get rid of them (since they're broken anyway) we get a scrap merchant to come and take them to clear the NEEDED space, but as expected such an idea was denied.

    - For some reason, every BHF I've been/worked with has the tiniest size warehouse in ratio to what they accept. It's a running theme that they accept FAR TOO MUCH, then spend more money tipping out what they don't use. But since they're a charity they can't say no to stuff apparently.

    - Warehouses get far too cluttered for my personal tastes, stuff everywhere. With the role I had, I didn't believe I had the authority to go ahead and take a stand and say... this needs to go... this should not be here e.c.t...

If I have been told, you have the authority to do so, the warehouse would have been a lot tidier.

I applied online. I interviewed at British Heart Foundation in January-2016.

1 hour interview from Area Manager, who read from a list of questions.
The atmosphere was easy going and friendly. I enjoyed the interview, and so did the interviewer. I felt relaxed and the questions were at a comfortable level. I was asked a lot about my experience, and how i can use that in the vacancy, the interviewer answered my questions promptly, and i left feeling positive.
