    QA Manager Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Vancouver, BC
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Axiom Zen (Vancouver, BC) in October 2019.

Disclaimer: I did not apply for this position, I was approached by their recruiter via email.

I received an email from this company's recruiter for an opportunity as QA manager. I replied immediately with my number and availability but did not receive a response until a full week later as the recruiter had gone out of town. He asked me again for my number and availability, clearly indicating that he had not even read my response at all. I replied and different recruiter/HR person scheduled me in for a 30 minute phone call with someone close to the project they were hiring for. The call was pleasant. It seemed like the project details were a bit unclear but he was very nice and honest.

The second recruiter contacted me again to schedule a google hangouts call with their QA contractor/adviser. I spoke to him for about 30-45 minutes or so and it was more like a very casual interview. He was very nice and well spoken but he described the role very differently than in my first call. The position is actually a lot more demanding and complex than what was initially proposed and that was very poorly communicated throughout this whole process.

The day after the hangouts call I received an email from the guy in the first call thanking me for considering them and wishing me luck on my job search (which is funny because I clearly stated with him in my call that I wasn't looking for a job and they were approaching me).

Overall the process took 3 weeks and felt like a huge waste of time. It bothered me a lot that they couldn't even take the time to read my email responses and then completely misunderstand that I was not job hunting, they were trying to poach me. I get the sense that they are sort of all over the place with what they're looking for. The only thing that was consistent was how often it was stressed that they had money/funding. AZ comes off as a very ambitious but also pretentious kind of studio. I wish them the best.
