Mission: We’re changing our world by putting people first and making dreams come true. The three goals of ATB 2.0 are to be #1 in every market that we're in, to be THE place to work, and to be loved and respected by Albertans.
ATB is kicking off the Fall Season with an event from Ellevate, a team member network that influences the advancement of all women at ATB.
We heard from Ellevate’s Leadership Team and executive sponsor Wellington Holbrook, on topics from uncovering unconscious bias to meaningful ways that we can create a work environment that is an engaging and positive space for women. The topic of how men can participate, benefit and advocate with women was also discussed.
ATB Ellevate is just one of many team member networks that are created and led by team members to inspire an inclusive and engaging workplace for all people. Learn more about this, other team member networks and inclusion at http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQYb7

When we talk about personal equity, we’re not talking about financial statements. At ATB, personal equity is our investment in your personal and professional growth. In being THE Place to Work, we know it takes exceptional people to truly listen to customer needs and provide the right service and expertise that matters. At ATB, we want to provide the tools, resources and support for you to be successful in everything you do! We understand the importance of listening, which is why we want to listen to your needs and development goals and ensure your story at ATB is a positive one.
Part of developing your personal equity is ensuring you can achieve a work/life balance in an environment that can accommodate you when “life happens”. No matter what event, myTime allows you to take the time that you need to manage both your work and personal commitments. With myTime, you will take – and be paid for – the time you need to look after your overall health and well-being each year. ATB not only supports and encourages, but expects you to take the time you need to relax and rejuvenate – which means taking a minimum of three weeks vacation per year. This is just one of the many examples of how ATB is not only THE Place to Work, but the Place to Be for all employees to succeed within the ATB community.

We love hearing stories from our customers about how ATB was able to create happiness for them. But we also love hearing about how ATB created happiness for our team members too. Below are some quotes from team members that well, make us happy.
Re: Our in-house leadership development programs
“Masterful Leadership is one of the BEST treasures that has ever come into my life, my career, my spirit and soul. Timely, for sure. Challenging, to the max! And life altering, definitely to the max!”
~ Sandy Broadbent
Re: Flexible work arrangements
“I came back to ATB after almost two years at home with my kids, and because of technology, I am able to have a three-day schedule in the office, allowing me to spend time with my girls while on-call Monday and Friday. This job gives me the best of both worlds, and leaves me fully engaged in every role I play at home, and at ATB.”
~ Megan Despanque
Re: Our awards for top team members
“My Market VP, manager and boyfriend collaborated to throw me a surprise party to announce I was a President’s League winner. It was so special because I knew the celebration was made just for me—especially the tiara, pink slippers and princess theme!”
~ Azi Sadighi
Re: ATB 101
“I never felt like 'just a summer student' at ATB. Even though it was challenging at times to balance every day tasks with the capstone project, I had the chance to be involved with meaningful work. I was pushed to get out of my comfort zone, to connect with people throughout ATB, to work as part of a team to develop a realistic business solution, and to practice presenting in front of our executives. It was a summer experience that I couldn't get anywhere else!" ~Lauren Phillips
Re: Our commitment to Albertan communities
“One of the most fun times I had giving back with ATB was for Easter Seals, decorating their camp lodge for Halloween and the Christmas holidays. Knowing our efforts created an enjoyable environment in which attendees could be themselves without being stereotyped or judged, was so rewarding.”
~ Daniel Leung

I have been working at ATB Financial full-time (More than 10 years)
Many opportunities to learn and grow your career
You can hear and feel the culture of the company through the many events they put on for the community and for employees
Flexibility in the working environment
There is always change happening at ATB, so you have to be prepared to pivot and adjust course in the work you do or how you do it
Being a smaller financial institution (not a Big 5 bank), processes aren't always regimented and outlined. This is a good thing as well, but it's a difference from the Big 5 where things tend to come 'top down' and is very processed.
Advice to Management
Find a balance between process and fluidity - the process will help provide clarity and performance, but still needs to be fluid to support the need for change.
I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at ATB Financial (Lethbridge, AB) in February-2017.
- I submitted my online application and completed ATB personality test in December 2016.
- Initial phone interview with HR representative in January 2017.
- Face-to-face interview with Senior Team Lead and another manager in February 2017.
- Invited for a second round of interview the week after, but it was cancelled as an internal candidate has been selected.
Overall it was a very pleasant experience. Your HR partner will stay with you every steps of the way including a prompt notification of interview re-scheduling. My initial face interview had to be re-scheduled due to weather issues but it was informed promptly to me via e-mail. Allowing me to make the necessary adjustment to my already busy schedule.
The face-to-face interview was very definitely very cordial. They certainly know how to make you feel at ease and the flow of the interview felt akin to just a regular conversation between old friends.
ATB is really good at keeping their candidates in the loop. Even the cancellation of my second interview came directly via a call from the director whom I supposed to be interviewing in the first place. Definitely reduced the sting of disappointment of not getting the position.
Even though I didn't get the position, the tremendous amount of supports, follow-ups, encouragements, and kind words throughout the entire process solidifies my admiration towards ATB. This might not be my time to join the organization yet, but I absolutely will try again once the next opportunity comes up.
