I interviewed at Rogers Communications (Pickering, ON) in July 2019.
HORRIBLE experience! The position I was interviewing for was the Customer Service Consultant role at their Pickering location. I have been interviewed by Rogers’s before and my experience was lovely. However this time around a HR Recruiter made my experience absolutely horrible.
1st RED FLAG: He messaged me Monday morning to request my availability for a phone interview, I reply right away stating that I was available later on in the week. Yet, for some unknown reason, he decides to call me an hour after I email him (stating that I wasn’t available for an interview today). Thrown off guard but still ambitious for the job, I pick up using my interview voice.
2nd RED FLAG: I have been interviewed many times before by both large and small companies. Each time was similar in terms of protocol, they’d greet you, introduce themselves, ask you if it was a good time to chat, etc. This time around the recruiter did not ask me how I was, if it was a good time to chat (I already stated in writing that it wasn’t), and just seemed to rush into the interview questions.
3rd RED FLAG: He asked me question that did not grammatically make sense... Combined with his thick accent, stutter, and mumbling I had a really hard time trying to decipher the question. I answered it to the best of my capabilities. When I didn’t answer the question how he wanted it (probably because we both didn’t understand what the question was) he was very rude with his response. Saying things like “No no no, the question IS... NOT...” or “No I am not asking that, you are answering wrong *repeats the question*”
I am appalled that such an organization as Rogers would have hired such a man to recruit for them?!?!? I ended up hanging up midway through him scolding me about my “incorrect” response. I am quite confident with my interviewing skills so am pretty sure that this experience went sour because of the recruiter and not because of my interviewing skills.
