Great team. Smartest people I have ever worked with.
Great atmosphere and culture. Lots of teambuilding activities, events and catered lunches.
Very fast paced, lots to learn, constantly evolving products and services.

Need to be comfortable with quickly changing direction, products and services. It's a fast paced industry and as a result all employees have to be versatile and willing to change scope.

    Software Engineer Interview

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Index Exchange (North York, ON) in February 2019.

    Interview had 3 phases:
    1. Phone screening
    2. Video screen with managers
    3. In person screening

In 1 - Spoke with a recruiter. I was asked about why I was leaving my company, what I knew about Index Exchange, and talked about what I did in my previous role

In 2 - A video interview with two engineers. I was asked what I knew about the company and basically what I could offer as an employee. Engineers went on to tell me more about the technical aspects about the company (languages, requests per day)

In 3 - I went in person to one of the North York offices and met with 4 engineers. They asked me coding questions (rewrite this code, explain why this code is slow, design an algorithm that implements a wildcard operator (with regex)). Important step here was their assessment on how I talked through problems, how I took feedback, and whether I was an a-hole or not.

    • Given a class that reads from a network stream and a search string, design an algorithm that can read from an infinite string-stream to find the search string.   1 Answer
    • Given a folder structure (/sample/pa%th/to/a%folder/), design an algorithm that would work as you would expect for the % wildcards (ie if at the end of a string%, matches anything after the string)   1 Answer
