      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Jun 2, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

      I interviewed at Southwest Airlines

      Interview

Was approached to interview with Southwest for a Senior Software Engineering role. The dress code was supposed to have been business professional, although one of the guys on the call had on a T-shirt with his hat on backwards and the other guy just had on a polo shirt. The questions were all things I could speak at length about, and I wasn’t off track with any of them. I asked plenty of questions about the role and company, as well. I was overqualified for the role. Junior level recruiters and junior managers are pulling in the wrong audiences here. It’s a problem at many places right now.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Southwest Airlines (Dallas, TX) in Sep 2024

      Interview

I applied online, and then a recruiter contacted me and scheduled a 1 h rMS Teams call she asked both technical and behavioral questions and she was very nice and friendly then I passed the 1st interview and went to the 2nd interview which was a panel with 6 people there! I answered all of their questions but the next week the recruiter called me and said that they decided to go with the one who already working there as a contractor which was weird thing because usually companies can directly hire their contract-employed people and don't need to go the hiring process and the whole process to me was like a show that from beginning they just wanted to hire the same contract guy. Still, they had to go this hiring process and waste the energy, time and motivations of the all candidates including me, very unprofessional and bad act from this company.

      Application

The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Southwest Airlines (Dallas, TX)

      Interview

Applied online. Took over a month to be called back for HR screen. Then another month to talk to a solution architect. Was then brought to the HDQ to interview with a tech lead, their manager and technology manager. onsite it became clear they were looking for a hands on team lead vs a senior engineer that will grow into a team lead so it felt like a bit of a waste of time. Also there seemed to be some issue going on that was distracting everyone and so I felt somewhat dismissed. It was disappointing as I love Southwest as a customer.
