Initial phone interview with the recruiter, which was enjoyable. I then had a phone interview with the hiring manager, less enjoyable but a rapport was built. Grueling 3 step 2 hour interview process with the hiring manager, their counterpart and the Director. They were so concerned about my job history, asked me why I had a new position every 2-3 years. It's totally normal to have a new position in the lending industry every few years, the jobs depend on the interest rates and the market. The entire interview was full of questions that were market related, and aimed at eliminating me as a candidate. I know that I wams overqualified, but was looking forward to making a move back to the commercial space. I explained this to them. The only e≈planation I can think of is Regions is not an Equal Opportunity Employer, or at least not their Commercial Loan Servicing & surveillance division in Pasadena, CA. It was pretty obvious they were uncomfortable and homophobic of the LGBTQ community. It's amazing to me how a company can seem so progressive, but employ such backward thinking people. It's not just their evident aversion toward the LGBTQ community, but the managers seem to have an old way of thinking. This is what happens when you have managers that lack culture and life experience. My advice to Regions: Become more diverse, take calculated risks, and become more forward thinking.
