      Laboratory Technician Interview

      Feb 8, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Wharton, NJ
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Refresco (Wharton, NJ) in Feb 2017

      Interview

The interview process was described as a behavioral interview. It asked questions regarding how the candidate works, but it did not ask any questions regarding skills or knowledge. There were three interviewers. A senior manager, a middle manager, and an HR rep. Interview was a bit different. They asked very pointed follow up questions and it felt too personal. I did not feel comfortable post interview and was shocked to receive an offer. I had another job during the interview process and was very clear about the times and days that I could interview. I spelled this information out to the HR rep a minimum of 3 times. I ended up receiving a call at 3 pm on a Monday (my day off) for an interview at 10 am on a Tuesday (I had work). I had to alter my shift and told the HR rep that I would be able to stay a maximum of 1 hour. They kept me at the interview until 11:30 and I was late to work by 30 minutes.... During the process, I was very clear that my minimum pay requirement for the position was 20$/hr. I received absolutely no negativity or push-back regarding this pay rate. When I received my offer, I received a call from an HR manager that way over-explained and played down my qualifications. She offered $16.35/hr despite my requirements and the position being 2nd shift (2pm until 10:30 pm). I felt like this company wasted my time and badgered my references (another story, just take it with face value). It did not appear that they respected my time or needs. Further, they continuously talked about overtime and "staying until the work is done." They mentioned that sometimes people would work 7 days a week and additional overtime past 8 hours on each day. This was a particularly serious red flag for me. Some overtime is not bad and it can actually be great, but it appeared that this company takes it to the next level. It does not seem that this company would be a great place to work.
