      Assistant Store Manager Interview

      Jul 29, 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at RadioShack in Jul 2010

      Interview

I had a one-on-one interview with the District Manager, with the Store Manager sitting in when he wasn't helping with customers. I was interviewing for an assistant manager position even though my previous position was a SM. The interview was pretty straight forward, nothing stands out in my mind as unusual. However, any question I asked pertaining to the job, for instance "what are the hour requirements" I was answered with details pertaining to the SM position. I understand that I said I was interested in moving up within the company, but the position that was available was an ASM, not a SM. Through the course of the interview I learned the company (or at least that district) is really into micromanaging, which I don't thing is needed in most cases. This lead me to feel that I was over qualified for the position, and even for a SM position. Have you ever heard of a DM needing to interview every person a SM is interested in hiring before an offer can be made? Do they have any faith in the people they place in management positions? They require a minimum of 52 hours a week from SM and 6 days. I was told this was because they have found that stores perform best when the SM is present, so they simply try to keep them there as much as possible. My jaw almost dropped when I heard this, whatever happened to holding your employees accountable in your absense? I was then told that given my experience I could probably start at 5 and a half days and see how it went. Again, I was interviewing for an ASM position....more went on and the interview concluded with the DM telling me that they were going to talk and get back to me the next day. No one did. I waited four days and called the SM. An associate answered the phone and told me the SM was available and asked for my name, he came back on the phone and SOMEHOW the SM was busy on another call all of sudden and he needed to take a message. Needless to say I was never called back, I got ingored like that one more time before deciding that a company with interviewing practices like that, wasn't a place I wanted to be anyways. Now I KNOW I was overqualified for that position! I think the people who would do well as a SM with RadioShack would be someone who doesn't have any prior SM experience. Good luck to all who pursue it.

      Assistant Store Manager Interview

      May 6, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at RadioShack (New York, NY)

      Interview

Walk in. Made friends with one of the employees. After coming in for a while shopping for home theater products engaged in a conversation about how awesome radioshack was and in turn was asked if I wanted to work there. After careful consideration a said yes and asked what I needed to do. I was told to apply on Indeed in addition to the radioshack website because the manager received those applications directly. Also, be sure to know the store number for the location in which you wish to apply for. The next day I had the employee/friend unofficially introduce me to the manager and mentioned that I was interested in working there. I was followed up by receiving a phone call the next day and went in for a formal interview the day after that. Before the week was over, I had a job offer. =)

      Assistant Store Manager Interview

      Jun 3, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Monroe, LA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at RadioShack (Monroe, LA)

      Interview

The process is to apply on line. Follow up by applicant to the store manager of interest would be a good move by applicant to show interest and set up a job interview. Otherwise the next move is generally done by store and district manager by online review of applicant and phone interviews to determine and setup personal interviews at the various stores that need employees. Expect 2 Interviews. The First level interview will be with the store manager or a senior store manager from another store. The second interview will usually be with a district manager by phone. The process usually takes about an hour. Show strong conversation skills, be passionate in your presentation, show strong interest for the position applying for, explain caring for customers and the company's goals, and exhibit a great attitude will help to get hired.
