      Interview

Extremely Disorganized Hiring Process — Not Respectful of Candidates’ Time I was encouraged to apply for a sales role at Pulmonx by a current employee who personally referred me. I had strong, directly transferable experience and was optimistic about the opportunity. Unfortunately, the hiring process turned out to be one of the most disorganized and inconsistent I’ve ever encountered. After applying, I never received an update on my status. Only after repeated follow-ups did HR tell me I “didn’t have the experience” — a surprising conclusion given the referral and my background. When I notified my internal contact, she was stunned and asked me to reach out to her manager, who never replied. Weeks later, HR came back again to say the job requirements had now changed and invited me to interview. The interview experience itself was the final red flag. I was paired with a temporary stand-in hiring manager who was disengaged, curt, and seemed uninterested from the moment the call started. Despite the time and effort I invested in preparing, it was clear during the conversation that this was not a leadership team I would feel confident working under. Shortly after, I received a rejection email — and then saw the job reposted almost immediately. Overall, the process felt disorganized, poorly managed, and lacking in basic professionalism. In the end, everything worked out for the better — I accepted an offer with a far stronger company, with better leadership and nearly double the compensation Pulmonx was offering. But candidates deserve clear communication and a respectful, coherent hiring experience, and unfortunately that was not my experience with Pulmonx.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We're deeply sorry for the frustration and miscommunication you encountered, especially after being referred. We were navigating a period of significant leadership transition, and while that’s no excuse, it clearly created confusion and inconsistency that impacted your experience. We truly strive to provide a respectful, organized process, and your feedback will help us improve and bring greater clarity moving forward. Wishing you continued success in your new role — it sounds like a great fit!
