Very laid back and pretty difficult to not get the job, mostly just questions about hockey or if you have previous work experience. Managers are very relaxed and easy to talk to.
- Favourite NHL team and player

Behavior questions were the primary focus. They also asked situational questions as well. The interviewer was very nice and it was only one person at my interview. The process is only one interview, two interviews are not required so if you get past the first you have the job
- Explain a time you had to deal with an upset customer, how did you react?

Being able to offer advice based on personal experience is a huge asset in this role. be yourself and confident. they will most likely ask customer service type questions like "in a scenario where a customer was asking for xyz, how would you handle it"
- "in a scenario where a customer was asking for xyz, how would you handle it"

HR recruiter sent an invite to schedule an interview. Once scheduled, appointment was confirmed. On the day of the phone interview, recruiter emailed indicating was in a meeting and ask to reschedule to a few days later, which I replied immediately that the date works and to indicate a timeframe they are available to conduct an interview. The recruiter did not contact any days before or during the rescheduled interview date, which I sent an email asking if another day would be better. The recruiter ghosted after the initial first email and further follow-up emails were not replied to. Unsure if this is policy and/or practice to not reply when another candidate was hired or considered. Unfortunately, this did end up wasting two days of waiting for a phone call interview that never happened and time spent on research/preparation. Would ask for policy changes if this is, in fact policy as potential talent could be deterred from a poor experience; communication is key with your talent pool. As a specialized business with hockey, the experience may hamper clients as well, as I was a long-time client and wanted to support the business by employment there. However, the ghosting from a business is extremely unprofessional for the talent pool.

Easy going 1 on 1 conversation with just seeing how you interact with people and ability to have a free flowing dialogue and checking your general hockey knowledge. Quick chat about availability and start dates
- Which NHL player am I most like in my daily life

First they asked a bunch of questions on the phone. Then Quick interview in the back room with the manager about my hockey experience. They always have 2 candidates interviewing for each role.
- What is your hockey background
- Why Did you want to work at PHL?

I applied online. I interviewed at Pro Hockey Life
First there is a phone interview that asks general questions about yourself and customer, then a in person interview with a manager where you are asked about customer service again and also about your experience with hockey.
- How do you deal with angry customer?

I applied in-person. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Pro Hockey Life (Ottawa, ON) in Jun 2014
Pretty easy, you bring in your resume, they call you for an interview which happens in the office with one of the manager. he just fills in a paper as you talk.
- Can you name 5 hockey gear brands?

There was a two stage interview process. Stage one I was part of a group interview with 5-6 other candidates. The session was led by an assistant manager. Short list candidates were selected and then interviewed 1 on 1 with the stores GM before an offer was made. The questions were relatively open ended and more to see who would talk first in a group setting and tested knowledge of both hockey and retail sales. With any experience playing mildly competitive hockey and strong customer service skills you should be able to atleast land the 1 on 1 interview.
- Why do you think you would be a good addition to our team

Anonymous Employee in Kanata, ON
I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Pro Hockey Life (Kanata, ON) in Jun 2013
The manager who interviewed me was really nice, friendly, funny and made the interview feel natural and like a conversation. He joked around, told me more about the store and asked me about my education, my interests, and what I want to do after high school. He told me about himself and about working in the store.
- If the store is empty what would you find yourself doing?
