      Technical Manager Interview

      Jul 15, 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Optiv in Apr 2021

      Interview

The interview process consisted of multiple calls. There was an initial call to talk through my skillset at a very high level to see where I would fit and what I was interested in doing. This stayed very high level and they asked not only what I do now, but what I'm interested in learning more about / getting into. After that I met with a HR recruiter, Priya, who told me more about the company and answered all the HR type questions I had about the company. She was incredibly friendly and helpful. She became my primary point of contact and helped me along with the entire hiring process up until my first day. She was incredibly patient with my follow up emails :) Finally I had a interview with a technical consultant and a manager who worked in the division I was interviewing for. I was asked technical questions about the specific technologies I was going to be working with, but more importantly I was asked a lot about how I would approach problems working with a customer since this was a consulting position.

      Question 1

If a customer told you they wanted to build a new user interface containing charts that displayed metrics, how would you approach that problem? Both technically and interacting with the customer.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Optiv

      Interview

The recruiter emailed me three times to set up a meeting after my application and I responded very quickly. I didn't hear back for a week so I emailed them back one more time just in case and they responded yet again (4th time) with an invitation to meet up. Then again they went radio silent. An Optiv employee gave me a recommendation so finally the recruiter reached out again to set up the interview. The recruiter was 15 minutes late to the interview and then when they showed up they were dreadfully unprepared. There was no indication that any of my answers were not sufficient (this was just the initial HR interview so not even the technical interview yet) and a few days later I received an email stating I was rejected. Rejection is fine, wasting my time like this was not. I think I dodged a bullet with this one.
