      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Network Rail (Birmingham, England) in Feb 2015

      Interview

1 hour interview in Birmingham, I was invited to interview after the assessment centre. The assessment centre was fairly easy, with group task, presentation, in tray exercise etc. The interview had two people, one scheme project manager and on HR person. Both asked questions but put me at ease.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Competency based, questions asked on PM, projects I have led, my understanding of PM etc
      Answer question
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 9 months. I interviewed at Network Rail (London, England) in Mar 2024

      Interview

After receiving the notification that I didn’t progress to the assessment stage for the recent Graduate Project Management role, I took some time to reflect on the feedback. While it’s disappointing, I see it as a valuable learning opportunity. The main takeaway was that my CV, while strong in general management and technical skills, didn’t clearly enough connect my experience to the specific demands of a technical project management role. My time at McDonald’s gave me real-world experience in leading teams, improving processes, and ensuring safety—but I need to better articulate how those skills translate into managing engineering projects, not just operations.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about a time you faced a significant challenge at work. How did you approach it, and what was the outcome

      Application

I applied online. The process took 8 months. I interviewed at Network Rail (Milton Keynes, England) in Mar 2021

      Interview

The process was slick when in communication but months went by waiting for any progression from the initial application to the situational awareness test to the assessment centre to the final interview. I think that was due to the COVID 19 pandemic effects but still took a lot longer than anticipated.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Was situational around arranging a station and why you would place things in different places
