So I had an unusual experience at this firm. I visited the office location and found everything to be lovely, not that far from where I live. I interviewed with the HR associate after having difficulty with an over the phone conversation. I went in and loved all the people I met, everyone seemed really nice, I even got to meet the managing director who seemed like a very smart man. I later returned to interview with the supervising forensic accountant who was very nice. It seemed like a perfect fit. Small firm of really cool and nice people and interesting work. A dream considering the COVID situation. I was given an offer, with the only thing giving me cold feet was a below market pay rate. After thinking on it a few days I called the HR associate and asked for an increased hourly rate stating that it's the fair market value for an entry level associate in this profession and area and I especially deserve it coming in with my CPA exams passed putting me ahead of my peers. After a couple of days, they got to me saying they pulled my offer. Yes, they pulled my offer for trying to negotiate. But that's okay, I have another offer with a bigger firm that actually rewarded me for negotiating. Just a reminder, there is a high price to be paid for being cheap on labor.
