      Marketing Interview

      Feb 11, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cincinnati, OH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Merkle (Cincinnati, OH)

      Interview

This was an simple interview, but it was a frustrating experience overall.  The questions were very basic and the interviewer read them from a list, one after another. There was almost no follow-up or conversation beyond that. It wasn't apparent they'd even looked at my resume. I overprepared for the interview based on the questions they asked. I didn't realize until the very end that we'd barely scratched the surface of what I brought to the job and left he interview thinking they knew very little about my skills or experience. That's partially my fault but they seemed deliberately incurious.   My advice to anyone who still wants to work here is to take control of the interview instead of just reacting to their questions. That might sound obvious, but there were surprisingly few opportunities to make a case for yourself. Everyone is going to have the exact same answer to the types of questions they'll ask (e.g. "Do you have experience with deadlines?") so you have to do something different to set yourself apart. Use every answer as an opportunity to segue to why you're a good fit, even if you have to monologue or go off topic.  There's no guarantee that will work, but at least you'll feel like you forced them to learn more about you beyond their perfunctory questions.
