      Technical Editor Interview

      Aug 21, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Atlanta, GA
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at ISPA (Atlanta, GA) in Aug 2018

      Interview

I wanted to warn all new college grads about this position. During my interview, my interviewer took not 1, not 2, but 4 personal phone calls on my time. In addition, he continued to call me by the wrong name as well my previous place of employment even after I corrected him multiple times. He seemed really spaced out during the interview and I didn't get the sense that he was interested in anything I was saying due to the fact he would ask me the same question 10 minutes later because he didn't pay attention to the answer I gave the first time. At the end of the interview he went on a 20 minute long rant on how Lockheed itself will try to recruit you to join their team, and how you, "should not let them get into your head." After doing some research, most employees transfer to Lockheed for growth opportunities that aren't available at ISPA. Finally, I was sent an email with a job offer and a salary of $38.5k yearly. I made a counter offer trying to get closer to $40k (if you research technical writer/editor positions that is a common rate) and he decided to withdraw the offer entirely. Let me tell everyone here that if a company withdraws a job offer because you made a simple counter, they aren't interested in you as an employee. They want someone to be a cog in the wheel to do busy work and not ask questions. Most companies will tell you if they can or cannot move on the salary when you counter, not redact the offer entirely. When I emailed back explaining that I was interested in the position, I just wanted to know what the pay scale leniency looked like, the recruiter replied that the job had been filled. Overall a disturbing lack of professionalism from the interviewer coupled with the fact that he made it clear that ISPA does not want you to ever leave gave me enough red flags to be thankful I didn't end up working here after all. Despite this, if you still want to work here, go for it. Just know if you ask about any kind of competetive compensation you will not get the job.

      Question 1

Mostly just went over my resume and didn't pay any attention to what I was explaining. Will rant about how it is frowned upon to transfer out of the company.
