I was first contacted by a recruiter who went over my resume and qualifications with me. He asked for more details on projects I worked on and agreed to move me on to the next phase. I met with 2 interviewers over the course of 3 months, for a total of 3 or 4 interviews before a job offer was delivered. The interviews were friendly and conversational and opened up opportunities for me to detail my qualifications, rather than being forced to answer a series of technical questions.
