I had a frustrating experience during the interview process. The job posting listed a salary range of $54,000 to $105,000. Based on my experience, I indicated that I was targeting $100,000 to $105,000, which is within the range that was publicly advertised.
During the screening call, the recruiter told me that compensation at that level is reserved for managers and that this role falls into a lower pay grade. I was then told the highest they could offer for this position was $70,000 to $75,000.
If that is the case, the posting should clearly reflect what the role realistically pays. Listing such a broad range and then explaining that the top end does not apply to this position feels misleading. Transparency around compensation is important, and clearer communication upfront would save time for both candidates and the company.
