      Product Manager Interview

      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at FanDuel

      Interview

I was referred to this job by a friend who is currently employed at Fanduel in mid September. I was contacted by the hiring manager for a first interview in the beginning of October. I thought the interview went well, although I was told during the initial interview that there would be a hiring event the following Thursday ( I believe my interview was on a Monday). I sent a 'Thank You' email, and was told about the hiring event again from the hiring manager in response to my 'Thank You' email. Mind you, I am currently employed and Thursdays are one of my busier days. I even let the hiring manager know that Thursdays are pretty busy. I decided to put my best foot forward and show my flexibility and interest in the job, so I went to the hiring event. I met the hiring manager and some other 'top brass' while there. Things seemed to be going smoothly. About a month later, I learned that I would be having another interview. I was ecstatic. The day of the interview came. I was told same day that the interview time, which was originally slated for 1pm EST, was now changed to 430pm EST. This was the first red flag for me that something was going wrong. Again, I showed my flexibility and easy-going nature and accepted the time at 4:30. As someone who has conducted interviews before, I was always under the impression that you inconvenience the interviewer, not the interviewee. But alas, I took that in stride and showed my determination for the job. Again, I thought the panel interview went well and I even asked if the hiring manager and the lead engineer had any concerns or reservations about my ability to perform the job. They told me that they didn't. As it was getting late (past 5:30 pm), I cordially finished all of my questions, as to not have them on the phone past 5:45pm. I was told I would hear back with the next steps by the end of the week. Again, I thought the interview went well, however, that last minute interview change didn't bode well with me. The interview itself was on a Monday. Then the waiting game began. I didn't hear anything on the "next steps" at the end of that week. I reached out to the hiring manager the Wednesday of the following week. I received a response that the team was in "final talks" and a decision would be made at the end of the week. It was at this point that I knew I didn't have the job, so I continued to pursue other opportunities. Generally, when a hiring manager really wants you, they will move heaven and earth to get you onboarded, at the very least a verbal offer. Lo and behold, the following Wednesday, I was told they selected another candidate. I was not surprised in the least. I wasn't in the least bit angry, upset, or bitter about getting the position. In fact, I feel as though I dodged a bullet. If they had me jump through hoops to make a great impression, weren't respectful of my time, and did not appreciate my flexibility, why would I want to work there?

      Interview

The recruiter didn't seem to understand much about the PM role. The scope of work was unclear, and the intended impact of the product was also unclear. The phone screen felt like a one-way interview instead of two because the recruiter only understood the project that they were hiring for on a high level.
