      Answer question

I applied online. I interviewed at Dell Technologies in Apr 2025

      Interview

I applied online on the jobs.dell.com website. The posting had no close date visible untill you actually applied. They texted on a Monday at 10 am and then called at 4 pm. I was sent questions for the data science intern position which I didn't apply for since I was unqualified. Then we get on a screening call and everything goes well, the recruiter talks about the perks of the company and the length of the work contract and repeats the (correct) questions for the job posting. Then the recruiter asks if I have any sort of experience with SQL and python outside academic settings. I am a programmer with good grades so I am proficient at these. When she found out I didn't she said I was unqualified. They really want you to have something like an course from Coursera related to the requirements of the job posting, which were Python and SQL. However the contents of those courses are the same as that of courses I have taken in university which I have passed with above average grades where we used SQL a ton. I also have a project that uses python with data structures. So expectations are not clear the job posting is vague saying proficient in x but they actually want a certificate from a course related to x from Coursera. Then being fair they are probably measuring everyone by the same bar and the job posting was open to a lot of people who aren't programmers, including business people
