Head of Remote Assistance Operations Interview

      Aug 4, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Cruise in Jul 2023

      Interview

The interview process at Cruise was quite the journey; I was able to witness first hand, the lack of internal communication and follow through. In this regard, I am glad I got to see this mayhem before working with this company. I had to follow up with the recruiting team multiple times just to ensure my interviews were scheduled appropriately. During my second interview with the Director, I asked a few questions about culture as well as a question about what her top 1 or 2 priorities are over the next 120 days for the role I was interviewing for. Her answers were all over the place and could not really tell me anything about the culture within the team, outside of, "they can be a tough group." This naturally means that she has not taken the time herself to connect and build relationships. The Director struggled to tell me what her specific priorities are and what opportunities/strengths the team had - this was a red flag for me immediately. After my second interview, I was provided a take home assessment with," fake data," and was asked to complete a 3-5 page PowerPoint. Upon my completion of this assessment, I received no follow up or even a response for just about 2 weeks. After I again followed up with recruiting, I was advised that the decision maker was out of the office. Fast forward to week 3, I get a 3rd interview scheduled with local stakeholders. The interview is scheduled a week in advance. The day before the interview, I got a phone call from a Cruise contact I had never heard of letting me know that the interview will be cancelled because they filled the role over a week ago. I asked the gentleman why an interview was scheduled for over a week if the role was already filled? He chuckled and said, "sorry." Minutes after that call, I received a confirmation email and a reminder about my interview scheduled for the next day; this email was followed by another one 20 minutes later with a cancellation. That was it. Cruise did not impress and had major opportunities to communicate across functions. You could tell that the recruiting team was not plugged into each other’s priorities or the business and visa-versa with the hiring Director. This company has some serious gaps in understanding their own culture and really, what culture they WANT to create - I didn't gather that they even knew themselves.
