    Barista Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Hailsham, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Costa Coffee (Hailsham, England (UK)) in October-2017.

    Interview

Handed my CV in directly. Nearly a week later they replied via Email that I'd get an interview and mini-trial shift.

So I wore my appropriate clothing, all of the important things to be prepared to ask and answer for the interview in mind, but it turned out to be a very informal interview. The manager simply asked me what my availability was. Aside from a couple of insignificant things, that was the extent of the interview. In a way it was a relief, but it was also disappointing as I didn't get to show off the answers I'd prepared for common interview questions.

Anyway, I was quickly shown to the cafe floor and one of the workers basically helped me for the shift which lasted about 45 minutes. Even as someone with (sadly) absolutely no work experience, I can say the shift was fairly straightforward. I was shown the basic draining and dishwasher usage, cleaning tables and collecting finished trays, and the main difficulty, interacting with customers and getting to grips with the cash register. It seemed to make sense, but I couldn't exactly pick it up straight away. The workers were very nice about it and didn't expect me to get a hang of it right away. And of course, I didn't do any drink preparation.

I did find it quite enjoyable I suppose. It was a good experience, but I don't think the manager took much of an opportunity to see if I was a good candidate. I'm sure she was watching my customer service but that was never going to impress her as I've never done it before. I'm sure that people with experience applied, so my chances of getting the job were slim. The manager replied via Email to tell me that I hadn't been successful in the same afternoon after the morning I had the trial. This was honestly a bit gutting as it was clear she didn't even have to think about it for long at all. It came down to my lack of experience, I'm sure. I'm a little bitter about it, but I have to say it was a "positive experience".

TL;DR: Very informal, quick and easy interview, it was all about the trial shift.

    Barista Interview

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Costa Coffee (Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland (UK)) in October-2017.

    Interview

I emailed my CV to Costa after seeing an advert online, and I heard back after 5 days inviting me for an interview which I attended 3 days after. It was at a table set up in the corner of the busy, noisy cafe with two members of staff, the manager and assistant/deputy manager (?). It was quite relaxed and casual, with an informal style of questions being read from the booklet in front of them. I noticed that there were no scenario based questions and my responses were not written down, although this is not always common.

    Store Manager Interview

Anonymous Employee in Blackburn, England (UK)
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Costa Coffee (Blackburn, England (UK)) in September-2017.

    Interview

This is by the far best process I have been involved in. Started with a telephone interview, then an interview with the area manager . After this you get a chance to do an OJE to see if you like the job and get a chance to speak to another store manager. Then if still successful I had a third interview with a different RBM . Really made me deal wanted and turned down a higher salary because of the process.

    Interview

I send my resume for a part time weekend position, they called me and fixed an interview for the next day. The manager asked about any previous customer experience, if I ever worked in a bar etc etc. At the end I asked her how many hours will be, but no answer. They want you to work as much as possible, being flexible and they give you just the minimum salary wage

    Interview

Registered on their official website, chose the locations I'd like to work at then after a month or so received a call with an offer to interview me, first arranged telephone interview asking me about my job experience, why do I want to work for Costa etc. then I was invited to a trial at one of the chosen locations. Trial lasted about 2hrs I was serving customers on the till, cleaning tables, being introduced to the coffee machine and made a few drinks. After that sat down both with the manager and assistant manager they asked me how I felt about this trial and few other interview questions. In the end they both agreed I was successful. Overall easy and a good experience.

    Barista Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Huddersfield, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Costa Coffee (Huddersfield, England (UK)) in June-2017.

    Interview

I applied online via the Odeon careers site (since this was the costa run by the Odeon) and got invited for an interview around a week later. The interview was really short just a chat about past experiences and what I could bring to the team and I got invited for a trial shift a few days later after telling me they had 2 positions available.
The trial only lasted an hour and I was well prepared but they had me handing out coffee they had made and clearing tables at what I thought would be the quietest time of the day so I was not able to show my skills and stand out which was quite annoying, got a call the following day saying I hadn't been offered the job.

    Barista Interview

    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Costa Coffee (Burnham, England (UK)) in May-2017.

    Interview

Applied via Indeed, and recieved a call asking to come in for an interview. We did it in a Costa shop floor, because it was for a new shop opening soon. Had the area manager, store manager and I assume the area manager's assistant there. I was asked a few questions, and then they explained the training process and said I'd head back soon. It lasted less than 10 minutes in total, so I wasn't confident, seeing as it even came out that I'm not a huge fan of coffee!
