      Graduate Structural Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Alan Baxter

      Interview

The initial communication was by email, I sent a CV and a cover letter. A week after, I got a phone call to set up an interview. The interview was mainly conducted by a junior engineer. He first gave me a tour of the office, showing me posters of the projects the company has worked on and giving me the opportunity to ask questions. The office space is welcoming and the atmosphere is studious, everything in the office encourages people to exchange ideas - overall the environment seemed suitable to an engineering practice. The interview was informal, more of a friendly talk, and I was asked some motivation questions: why engineering, why London, why this company, etc. We sat down to go over my resume and I was asked about: - educational background: strongest and weakest subjects - past experiences - we went over some work and sketches I had brought along - what kind of building interests you At the end, I had a small interview with Alan Baxter, but more as an introduction rather than a formal interview. He asked again about my past experiences and we talked about the current state of new build vs. refurbishment in London. I received an email with detailed and customized feedback one week after the interview.

      Question 1

Mostly unexpected, lots of questions calling for "negative answer": which subjects are you weak at, which subject were you the least interested in, etc...
