      User Experience Designer Interview

      Jun 30, 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Aha! in Jun 2022

      Interview

The process was going ok until I received the take home design assignment. They sent me a link to one of their product websites and a summary of the problem they were having with it. They wanted me to solve the problem, but were particularly interested in my UI skills. There was no compensation offered, and they made a note that the work would not be used (but who believes that?) Posting a review because companies need to stop these hiring practices of getting designers to do free work.

Thanks for the feedback. Please consider that we have been using the same design challenge for some time and that we do not implement what anyone shares. It is a short assignment so the level of fidelity would not even make that possible. We also ask writer and some marketing candidates to do a writing assignment, digital marketers to assess a sample advertising challenge, and even our CS team members are asked to do a demo. We find that doing a quick exercise gives candidates a sense for what they would be working on and it adds depths to our interviewing process. We wish you the very best in your search.
