      Metrology Engineer Interview

      Sep 5, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at ASML in Jul 2018

      Interview

All in all the whole procedure went well and good. The people I talked to were all nice and open. I applied using the ASML system, which I think, still works a bit dodgy. After a call to the HR departement an appointment was swiftly made for the first interview. First interview (and most important) was technical and lasted roughly two hours. First hour was with two members of the group. They shortly explained what was going to happen. It was a Matlab assessment of 30 min (with a bonus question) including doing a short presentation. Afterwards there was a short review of how it went. Depending on your experience this can be either hard or do-able. I have a feeling little experience can show off quickly. Since I used Matlab since forever it went well for me, so I am not sure how strict they are with the selection on this part. Because of the short time, this part can be harder to prepare if you have little to no Matlab experience. Second hour was with an architect and head of the group. Questions were asked about your background what experience you have and why ASML. Also the job was explained in more detail and what it entails. They also ask you exactly what (part) ASML is doing in the semiconductor industry and how their machines work. This requires some preparation but should be easy. Afterwards invited for a second interview. You were required to make an online-test beforehand. The test consisted of a logic part, a personal assessment and a specific ASML test. The latter was based on the actions you take depending on situations arising in the company. The interview itself was non-techical and a HR person attended as well along the group leader. The results of the test were discussed and asked if you agree on it or not and why. The interview felt a bit more like formality, probably because the decision was already made. The interview ended with them saying they will hire me. The send the contract afterwards. Negotiating was not possible.

      Interview

Had a coffee talk with the manager while doing my internship (master thesis) at the company. After that one technical interview, where most questions were regarding my previous internship experiences. Also one interview with manager, mainly behavioral questions, and looking for team fit.

      Question 1

Questions about my previous internship experience. Asked to desrcibe the topic in detail. Niche topic, so interviews didn't ask any difficult questions.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at ASML (Veldhoven) in May 2025

      Interview

t went okay. I had initially applied for a different position, but was rejected. Afterwards, someone from recruitment/HR suggested this vacancy, which turned out to be an internal position. I was invited for an online interview. The plan was for me to meet with two managers, but only one attended and joined about ten minutes late. Despite that, we had a fairly good conversation, although I sensed they might have already had another candidate in mind. The manager seemed a bit overworked, which I could understand. Afterwards, I received feedback. They said I came across as a strong candidate, but the manager questioned whether this role would truly make me happy. She explained they were looking for someone who specifically enjoys “problem solving.” Since I hadn’t used those exact words during the interview, they felt I might not be the right fit. Another reason they gave was that I was considered too junior, which makes sense, as this was an internal vacancy and other candidates already had more experience within the company.

      Interview

Quick and easy. Response was quick as well. Interviewer was sensible with his questions. Really appreciate the process. Could have more technical. It was more about personality and communication. Looking forward for next round or interview if offered.
