      District Manager Interview

      Nov 22, 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tully, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at ALDI (Tully, NY) in Nov 2021

      Interview

Absolute joke of an interview process I have ever been on in my entire life. For such a "high level" position that Aldi makes it out to be, it was astounding how little effort the interviewers put into the interview. The only question ever asked was different variations of "tell me about yourself" which went on for about eight hours of the second interview and the entirety of the first 30 minute interview. No behavioral questions, no situational questions what you would do as a DM or qualifying questions to let them know you actually put effort in on your end to research the company and what value you could bring to them. If you have any retail experience and understand what the job is, Aldi I feel looks at that negatively because they want someone with no work experience who they can brainwash to what they want. They do not want someone who can demonstrate they can handle pressure and are strong willed from the get go. Essentially, you probably have a better chance of getting this job if you just tell them you have no retail experience and just basically "yes" them for every question. My favorite part was the fact that we had to "present" another "tell me about yourself" one by one in front of the interviewers as if we were a bunch of performing monkeys while they again, asked baseless, pointless questions right off your resume showing they clearly didn't know anything about you and the point was supposedly to assess your speaking skills..? My advice would be if you have any personality whatsoever that shows you can think for yourself and/or retail experience that shows you know the business or at least understand what being a DM is - don't waste your time because thats clearly not what Aldi looks for in a DM and probably why there's so much turnover.

      Interview

First round interview was s video interview with each question having a prerecorded question, then 30 seconds of prep time to answer the question with about 2 minutes of time. You sit at a device of your choosing and stare at yourself the entire time.

      Interview

Communications started with 3rd party recruiter. Behavioral interview, asked about experience, leadership, communication abilities, weaknesses you have. Moved on to next round. In-person interview following this with Aldi executive. Similar format to initial interview, mainly behavioral, noticed a complete lack of organization. Every question in 2nd round was a follow-up to the previous question. Having interviewed for many roles across many industries over the years, this interview was an interrogation, not a conversation. Experience led me to believe that Aldi, or this specific interviewer, struggles to see candidates for the District Manager role beyond 'assets'. Makes you wonder if corporate Aldi has a similar effect on other peoples souls. See for yourself!
