Does there seem to be diversity at Tucows?

Pros

Good benefits, work from home options, relatively unpretentious for the industry, genuinely supports diversity in the workplace (in hiring and promoting from within)

Cons

Support can run like a typical call centre. Front line employees under high pressure to work constantly and have every second of their day accounted for, often having to stay late to get extra work done as time is not allowed during shifts for this. Managers have it relatively easy workload wise, but are discouraged from helping out directly, instead opting to ask employees to work overtime instead

Advice to Management

Not uncommon for support centres, but front line employee burn out is an issue that could be addressed. Efficiency and accounting for every second of front line employees day is favoured without considering the long term mental health effects of that kind of micro managing has on employees. Employees at this level don’t get relief from this (you have to work stat days unlike corporate/management, so you don’t even get those breaks). Giving support works stats would be a good start (or leu days if they are needed to work stat holidays) and look at providing time during shifts to follow up on work, not just deal with new incomming work having to decide between letting old work pile up or stay to work unpaid overtime to get caught up. It could be better, but this is relatively par for the course for modern tech support workers workloads.

How is race or ethnicity talked about at Tucows?

Pros

I joined Tucows for a little under a year now and it's truly been a breath of fresh air. Tucows is a company that is diverse and truly values people of colour. The company have real, authentic conversations about racial and gender injustice. Discussions lead to action items that are actioned upon. Leadership empowers you to make decisions and leadership is approachable regardless of their title. Lastly, the employee benefits are simply amazing.

Cons

Tucows embraces video conferencing quite a lot - maybe too much. I would love for Tucows to advise employees to only use video when face time is necessary as this can be very draining when working remotely.

Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing and don't ever become "too corporate".
