What kind of career opportunities exist at PointClickCare?

Pros

I’ve been here for a few years and I will say that overall it’s been a great experience. It is a more challenging environment than some of my early years, but honestly I still like being challenged in my role as I want to keep learning. Recently there’s been a push to make the Engineering organization focus more on efficiency and creating roles that challenge employees technically. There were a few QAs laid off as the company moves more towards an automated testing environment. You hate to see anyone go, but they were given the opportunity to “up” their testing skills. Many of them did and they are still here and in Test Engineer roles now, but based on some of the Glassdoor reviews from ex QA’s, some of them seem upset that they didn’t upgrade their testing skills. Flexible vacation policy, awesome building with amenities that are better than I’ve personally seen anywhere else – pool table, golf simulator, ping pong, beer vending machine, really nice gym, nice bathrooms (yes it matters), etc. Compensation & bonuses are fairly competitive. Company is a market leader with a significant edge and lots of opportunity to grow.

Cons

Location isn’t fantastic, but it’s do-able for most of the GTA and that’s relative to everyone’s location.

Advice to Management

Continue to focus on identifying what's helping vs hurting the organization. Unfortunately most major decisions are bound to upset a party involved so if you use the vision of helping people as a baseline, it would be beneficial.

Does PointClickCare have any mentoring programs?

Pros

Team is very welcoming and open to communication. Provides a mentor figure in the team to help an intern or co-op student transition into the role seamlessly. Invites interns to ask questions whenever they are stuck or need advice.

Cons

Unfortunately I was unable to work at the workplace due to COVID-19, and did not set foot in the office. No complaints about the job itself though.

Advice to Management

Advise new hires to take notes whenever possible to help remember and familiarize themselves with the surroundings. This was extremely helpful to me and I cannot stress this point enough

How are promotions handled at PointClickCare?

Pros

* Decent wages and benefits * Unlimited PTO (when you can take it) * Remote work * Direct manager is great

Cons

* Bad managers at mid-management level are causing chaos and causing several employees to leave every month * Push out changes before they are prepared for them * Change naming on products/services often * Change systems too often for things like HR, time entry, payroll * Double standards in work/performance expectations * Certain employees get the promotions or have positions created just for them * No real career path unless you want to move into management, then you have to fit into the certain employees' mold to receive a promotion

Advice to Management

Live what you preach - company values and missions are touted frequently but are not a reality for most employees. Be aware that poor leaders are going to kill your company. Hold everyone to the same standards.
