How are senior leaders perceived at MasterClass?

Pros

The organization operates as one large team working toward a common, noble goal. It is exhilarating and can be all-consuming. You'll work hard and learn a ton, and gain some awesome friends in the process. You'll build your skills and learn a lot here.

Cons

Long days, crazy deadline and no lack of pressure from leadership to get the job done. Depending on your department, you'll likely be at the mercy of the next class launch.

Advice to Management

Make employees feel more heard and included on an individual level. Promote and nurture good workers.

How are the career development opportunities at MasterClass?

Pros

The people who work here are great. There is a feeling of camaraderie amongst the troops albeit mostly within the functional areas (i.e. Content, Engineering, etc). Company benefits are pretty good. The CMO seems to have a vision for the company. Unfortunately he is the only good hire in the last year at the senior level.

Cons

Senior leadership and work/life balance are the main cons of this company. Regarding leadership, it honestly doesn't exist. They claim that they care about the people but that is not the case. Recognition and promotions are not based on merit. Leadership doesn't aspire people to do their best which is why all the good talent end up leaving. There is no work/life balance as the expectations given current resources are not aligned. This causes great stress and exist across multiple functional areas not just Content.

Advice to Management

Stop micro managing your employees and treat them with respect. You hire good people but then don't let them leverage their experience. Improve cross functional communications to reduce the continual operational errors that occur. People Ops team need to focus on hiring and training managers and it starts at the top. The product is great but please stay true to the mission. Last, set realistic goals thus allowing for a better work/life balance

Recognition and promotions are not based on merit.
