Does Intertek offer parental leave?

Pros

There are the odd managers who try to be considerate of their staff but middle management allows them very little to no control over their own teams. Whilst a little late to the game, they did allow staff to wfh throughout covid-19. If you want to be exposed to work outside of reporting accounting this is possible so long as it is in favour of managements goals.

Cons

Middle management are condescending and are continuously increasing pressure and workload on their staff because all they care about are profits and cutting deadlines. When staff are struggling they put the onus of their staff’s mental health on their staff by telling you to ‘be aware of mindfulness’ as opposed to actuality taking responsibility themselves. Staff working HEAVY amounts of overtime for free is heavily relied on by management due to their poor management skills and desires to cut deadlines. Throughout covid-19, I worked about 15-20 hours overtime every month end (for free) and at the staff salary review I was awarded a 0.9% payrise and everyone else in my team was given 1.0%. When I asked why and said I felt I had been discriminated against I was told to be grateful I got a payrise at all. Overtime is never paid for and you will not receive time in lieu. There is a pitiful 1% bonus and this wasn’t received by staff in 2020 or 2021 due to covid but management still received their bonus’. When Boris said staff could go back to the office Intertek immediately enforced this. As someone on the shielding list I was made to go in for eight hours by myself out of principle. They promise progression in the interviews but there is no room for progression unless someone quits or goes on maternity leave.

Advice to Management

Get rid of middle management and allow managers to be responsible for their own teams. Staff do not need three people to be accountable to. If you will not compensate staff for their overtime efforts at month end then at least do not try to squeeze every bit out of them throughout the rest of the month.

They promise progression in the interviews but there is no room for progression unless someone quits or goes on maternity leave.

Does Intertek have a pension plan?

Pros

If you have initiative and work ethic you can learn a lot. Some amazing colleagues that are always happy to help and have great industry knowledge. Used to be access to training courses. Decent hours and pension.

Cons

Very old equipment and lack of investment in the lab and the staff. IT is absolutely shocking stop forcing pointless systems on the lab staff we should have no involvement in commercial! If you work hard you do get more responsibility however no payrise or bonus. Subject experts are leaving all the time and leaving a hole in knowledge, therefore staff with no experience are having to pick up methods with no experience leading to customers dissatisfaction. Some staff hate change and anyone new succeeding, they make sure they show how they feel, can be quite toxic. Management have absolutely no idea how much work goes into certain projects so promise false expectations to customers and the staff end up taking the brunt of the blame.

Advice to Management

Actually talk to the lab staff, understand what actually goes into projects and stop promising unrealistic deadlines! Hire staff to train with experts before they retire/leave. Invest in the few staff that are actually useful and doing 5 jobs in one.

Decent hours and pension.

Does Intertek offer life insurance?

Pros

4 weeks PTO once you’re an official employee

Cons

Unprofessional. Lack of growth. They expect you to overwork yourself for minimal pay. Zero work life balance. If you have kids they try to use that to scare you about job security. They pick and choose what they want to follow in the handbook. Overall toxic environment Health insurance is horrible as well. Minimal coverage at high rates. Spouses aren’t allowed to be on your plan. The 4 weeks of PTO are great because of how much you end up working. You become so burned out that the time off is required for your mental health.

Health insurance is horrible as well.
