Does there seem to be diversity at Global Knowledge?

Pros

My team was tightly knit and I looked forward to going to work, lot of flexible people who had each other's backs and pride in getting the job done. Engaging work and enthusiasm, good accountability expected from each person, lots of positive push. Lot of opportunity to make good contacts and good relationships with understanding as many of the teams as you could interact with and seeing how we all played off of each other. Amazing diversity in both demographics and the backgrounds of what sorts of studies and work people had already done. Lead to amazing collaborative approaches to things and a lot of pulling in people with non-standard experience to solve problems. Direct management in operations was often positive, engaging, and willing to help you succeed. And an awesome annual Halloween party.

Cons

Minor promotions easily switched you from hourly or non-exempt to salaried (exempt) without being clear on this causing hours to suddenly double and your W/L would disappear. Compensation for this change was non-existent. Regularly had mixed teams of hourly and exempt who had overlapping duties, leading to confusion and frustration. If you tried to do your job right you could expect to be overworked. Board members and higher ups (Chief - level) would often go around management chains to give orders to the lowest level employees, causing stress and conflict. Lot of distrust of upper level/board in general. Expect the musical chair approach for what department was getting laid off each quarter. No amount of feedback from higher up could be trusted about team performance. Several benefits (free training classes) was almost never granted. Company overall did not keep up with changing times. Most roles were outsourced, including finance and operations.

Advice to Management

People get excited at the chance to take training classes from GK, find ways to get them in to them. Board and Chief officers needed to trust their VP's, Directors, and Management chains. The amount of favoritism and discrimination occurring due to the executive officers getting involved at the lowest level killed moral.

Amazing diversity in both demographics and the backgrounds of what sorts of studies and work people had already done.

How is race or ethnicity talked about at Global Knowledge?

Great introduction into sales Good benefits and entry-level compensation

I don't even know where to begin. I read another review that explains that we are living in a "culture of fear" and I couldn't agree more. This is a company that doesn't value its employees at all. Sales and marketing are being blamed for mistakes that executives and higher management have made that cost the company millions of dollars worth of sales. They ruined relationships with some of our top vendors that in turn ruined relationships with our customers, and then they look at us and ask us to fix it or you're fired. The company is falling apart due to mismanagement and financial stress. They are paying employees less or just completely letting them go. For the most part, they let go of the employees that are good natured and do their jobs, but keeping the managers and sales reps that are in relationships and spend their time gossiping. Another point is that managers are sleeping with their subordinates and nothing is done about it. It's kept hush-hush so that HR doesn't hear about it. Even any concerns taken to HR aren't adequately handled, including personal safety, sexual harassment, and discrimination. There is favoritism amongst managers on the floor towards individuals on their team, especially for those that have those secret relationships. Rumors are constantly spreading, and some individuals gossip more than they work, but those are the reps that are never reprimanded. The sales floor is more like a high-school with all the drama, gossip, and dating that is going on. They recently laid off 80+ people in sales support, operations and finance with plans to outsource those groups. This means that rather than providing jobs to Americans in-house, we will now have to wait for longer periods of times to communicate with people overseas that we don't know. This is going to create even more problems with customers that sales reps will have to answer to. The company culture is toxic and disgusting. It is filled with sexism and discrimination against minorities. There is little diversity throughout the organization's headquarters, with only IT and operations really filled with any people of color (which again, most were laid off.) And as long as your manager is your friend (or your lover), you will keep your job, never get reported to HR, and never have to worry about having a bad territory. If you really need sales experience, apply (because you will definitely get the job, they are pretty desperate for sales reps) and stay for no more than a year. You will regret anything beyond that if you even make it a year. You will not be valued at a company like this.

Advice to Management

Executives, you need to realize what sales is like now on the floor. Step into our shoes for a time and understand your own customers and your own employees. See why some people can't hit goal for months because they were given a zip code with no activity. Get rid of most of your sales managers because they are corrupt. GK needs better people in the company that are passionate about growing. Once we get those and develop the ones we already have, create more of a promotional track for them, otherwise what incentive do we have to stay? You mention an "open-door policy" but never take any of our concerns to heart, unless its of any benefit to you. Understand why we are struggling and why morale is down. Maybe then can GK flourish.
