What are some insights into the strategy or vision at Flair Airlines?

Pros

No nasty people encountered so far. Positive environment. Pay is ok, overtime availability if you like. Never hear anyone shouting and screaming. Possibility of actually succeeding and growing to be a permanent company, so potentially a job you could hold for a few years. If you like to have a chance to form a company, set things up, there is opportunity here.

Cons

Company is expanding, things are just being set up. Kind of older planes, so lots of breakdowns and chaos. With Canadian weather and the “new” airplanes coming also being about 20 years old, there is always going to be plenty of crisis management and last minute changes. If you are a problem solving kind of person, this is your place. If you want to drop in to a well oiled machine where your position is well defined and all the systems are set up and running for you, forget it. This is a place where you are the one setting systems up. Could be a positive if you like taking on more responsibility.

Advice to Management

Oh, who knows? Everyone knows the old planes have to go, and we are getting newer ones. Everyone also knows that finance for buying new is easier than loans for used, but whether we can fly enough to make the payments work, that is an open question. Certainly passengers want new equipment, and word of mouth is still the best advertising out there, so brand new planes would increase loads and smooth out the operation. As far as keeping your own sanity, you could probably delegate quite a bit more small accounting stuff.

Could be a positive if you like taking on more responsibility.

How is management perceived at Flair Airlines?

Pros

Was a great family oriented company that truly cared about their people and always had Exciting projects on the go. Was never a dull a moment.

Cons

New ownership with multiple shareholders now have completely destroyed what was once precious about this company. Flair is now incredibly top heavy in management - big salaries and plenty of ego yet there never seems to be any funds available to add support staff to the team in an effort to ease the ongoing burn out from heavy work load and long hours. The support staff that hold the weight of the company receive zero gratitude for all they do which is incredibly disappointing. Family dynamic is completely gone now with all the corporate politics. It is very disheartening that the culture of the company is so poor - don’t be fooled by their marketing, Flair is NOT a modern, casual and fun filled place to work. It is cut throat with a lot of turnover and is an incredibly disorganized and unstable business.

Advice to Management

First, Reduce the high level management which should free up funds that need to be allocated to hiring more support staff across all departments. Second, STOP trying to constantly reinvent the wheel with our internal processes/structures when we already have effective systems in places that just need more support to aid in their effectiveness and continuity. Thirdly and this is a huge one that is seriously lacking...SHOW YOUR GRATITUDE TO ALL YOUR NON MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES!! They are equally important and take care of so many crucial items on daily a basis, most of which are over and above their job and receive zero appreciation for it. This is a terrible waste of good people to constantly burn them out then replace them without showing the slightest gratitude at any point in their tenure for their efforts to keep the business running.
