Does Emco Corporation offer relocation assistance?

Pros

As an Outside Account Manager (OAM) you will be taken care of by management. You will be provided with all the tools needed to do your job (i.e. Mobile Phone, Laptop, Car Allowance, Gas Card, Expense Account, Training, Existing Territory). On the job training, occasional vendor training trips across the country and the U.S (all at the managers discretion). New leads are consistently coming in. When you start you will be given a large territory with existing accounts (both active and dormant). EMCO has an excellent selection of products and has great business relationships with key vendors locally. Profit Sharing, Decent Benefits Package, Good Pension Plan and RRSP Contribution opportunities.

Cons

You are only as good as your "Inside Team". Often times you will find yourself doing the task at hand yourself, due to your teammates lack of effort or attention to detail. Scheduling your sales calls can be difficult to manage when there is an expectation for you to work the sales counter throughout the day (entering orders and physically preparing them). At any given moment you'll be asked to work the counter on weekends. Working at the Profit Center (PC or Branch) can serve more as a distraction than a fun environment to get work done. It's best to work remotely when possible. You will be encouraged to put all your sales through the PC you work from (it’s all about the bottom line: profit sharing is paid from your home PC's performance). This type of philosophy can sometimes make it difficult to accommodate your customers needs when they're working across town. When transferring product from PC to PC, it increases your costs and reduces your margins, sometimes PC’s will reject your transfer request and ask that the sale be put through there location instead. It’s a greedy culture and there are simply too many hoops to jump through in the sales process at EMCO. The culture at the PC is driven by the PCM (Profit Center Manager), he/she either has won the team over and is respected or has completely lost the room resulting in a negative atmosphere. EMCO's inventory system is very dated as well, however, there are plans in place for a new system coming in late 2020 or early 2021.

Advice to Management

Trust your OAM. Offer the option to work remotely from home. Why the expectation to have him/her work the sales counter daily when you have dedicated counter salespeople? Offer a commission/profit sharing comp plan. Be a “Sales Manager”! Profit Centre Managers are labeled as the “Hero” but spend too much time in solitude. Be intentional and invest time with your salespeople… be that “Hero”. EMCO can't be an old boys club anymore, inspire the new generation.
