What are other benefits and incentives like at Article?

Pros

The values of Customer Obsession, Do It Differently, Winning Together, and Ownership Mindset are actually lived every day. The CEO's updates are not focused on revenue but on doing the right thing for our customers in line with our values - it's easy to connect the actions our leaders are taking with the values we have which makes decision making so much easier for everyone. All of the other seniors leaders constantly talk about the importance of focusing on our customers. Our leaders are experienced professionals who are accountable and responsible for the work they produce. We're not perfect but we can work together with trust and respect and we know our most senior leaders walk the walk when it comes to things like empowerment. Compensation is very fair and above market for the role I have and the work life balance is great. I know I'm appreciated for the work I do.

Cons

The rate of growth can make things chaotic at times because the processes we have are sometimes from a time when the company was a quarter the size it is now. You have to be willing to work with a bit of ambiguity when it comes to this. Underinvestment in the past around technology is catching up to us right now with all the growth but the company is investing massively here - potentially it's a tripling of the technology team in a single year. Benefits such as RRSP matching and parental leave could be better but I understand they're working on improving such things.

Advice to Management

Stay the course on living our values and work on scaling our processes.

Compensation is very fair and above market for the role I have and the work life balance is great.

Do employees at Article receive pay raises?

Pros

When I started in 2017 my manager was wonderful, they pushed me to learn and take on work. They made sure I was happy in my position and encouraged me to apply for internal position for growth. They where lucky and moved into a new role while the position I had asked for (Admin Assist) was given to a temp I trained. They took away my manager position leaving me no option for growth. I got a new manager that did not care about me, even in my 1 year review that was 4 months late they said I am a self started and can handle the position without any supervision. I pushed for some help as our department was hard to manage with 1 person. They hired someone and moved the Admin Assist duties to our role with no pay raise, no new title. I asked if I would be considered for a new admin role and that conversation was shut down. I was fired for no justice cause because I was unhappy that I put in more then 2 years worth of work only to get a manager that didn't care about me, didn't push me to be my best or even care that I was on their team. I wasn't recognized for my 2 year anniversary when another employee on my team was recognized for there 3 years 1 week before mine. Just shows that management doesn't care about the people on their team, they pick and choice who they want to see grow.

Cons

HR is terrible, they are too scared to talk to people about the major issues in the office and expect you to confront employees yourself. Office is dog friend which is awesome, there was a few aggressive dogs that had been brought to HR with nothing to be done even though many employees have been bite or snapped at. No employee hand book or rules is a bit strange for an office of 250+ Office is not ventilated so the summers are blistering hot and the winters so cold that you wear your winter jacket and gloves inside. Office promotes in house grow which could be farther then the truth for a lot of roles. New SOP are put into place every week with no communication from the top down.

Advice to Management

Invest in the amazing people you already have. Its widely know that if you train and put care into the people you already have instead of pushing them away you will have a stronger team that supports the company. Not just firing every employee that pushed the envelop for Be Better, Be Direct which is 2 of the main statements about Article. Be Direct means listening and telling your employee what they are doing wrong, not waiting till they are at the edge and then pushing them off with no clarification or chance to right their wrongs. Be Better, re read that because Article is not Being Better to their employees.
