I have been working at Hyatt full-time for less than a year

Pros

Fun and enjoyable environment between staff. Staff meals and benefits available.

Cons

Disorganized but understandable based on the newness of the property.

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

It's important to note that I worked at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, which is a resort hotel compared to a city property. The different departments felt like families of their own, and the... people you work with are great. This of course is also influenced by your department manager, but personally I have never had a problem with any of them. The wage was actually pretty good, ended up making about $15.50 an hour, and around $90-$200 a day in tips. Of course servers make a bit more in tips, especially in the fine dining restaurants. Benefits were great, and the Destinations(which was used to stay at other Fairmont hotels around the world) was one of the biggest plusses. Being able to stay at the Fairmont Mayakoba for $95USD while minimum room price was $1,000, PLUS have 50% off all F&B. At the risk of sounding like a brainwashed employee, I really liked Fairmont, it's culture, and what it stood for. It was a brand I was proud to work for, and the whole "turning moments into memories" bit was actually something I enjoyed. It sounds cheesy, but it was a felt the culture and what they company wanted to convey.

Cons

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a resort town. It attracts teens and early twenty-year-olds to come work and party for the summer, and then leave. This makes it tough to keep a solid culture and... community (which is important when half the citizens of Lake Louise are employees at the CLL) when turnover is so high. People of this age group, making up the workforce and population of a tiny town, mainly focus on partying and drinking(... And other stuff), which can make it tough to stay motivated if you are one of the people trying to improve your career. That being said, if you stick it out for a year, you are automatically senior to 50% of the hotel with the high turnover, which is great if you want to move up the chain.

Advice to Management

Honestly, I had great managers working at the Lakeview Lounge at the CLL.
