Former Intern - Anonymous Intern

I worked at Charles Schwab

Pros

- lots of experienced engineers willing to help you learn - Flexible hours / time off - Personal selection of job position - Good working atmosphere

Cons

- a very small company which can have limited employee opportunities to grow - quite far out of the city, can be hard to get to everyday

Advice to Management

- great access to upper management discussions and available of personal insight on career opportunities - Screening process for interns should be a little tighter, some interns have low motivation... and perform poorly

Current Employee - Java Developer

I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time for more than a year

Pros

What a great place to work, for them to be able to keep such a high ration of Senior people that have seen it all, tells you a lot, doing the occasional interview with other companies makes you... realize that further. You find yourself asking ( why should I jump through hoops to get a new job that might pay slightly better, but sucks on every other levels?) * Great culture that is truly applied in every aspect * Diversity * Innovation for promotion: Everyone is trying to build that next hot internal tool, that will see wide adoption.(like a mini market where startup compete) * Benefits that really matters and you actually use * Managers are upheld to high standards and no one is promoted until they are proven * Managers are fair, flexible, understanding, trust worthy. * High standards for interpersonal interaction (respect and friendliness) * Top shelf training * The list just going...too many to list

Cons

* Big company that is process heavy, you have to pick your battles but they are working to fix this and empower users. * Diversity can turn tribal as you often see teams that are 90% composed of one... national origin, speaking their own language at work.(they work to fix it, but its very hard with people national origin are very hard to determine ) *Innovation for promotion: Everyone is trying to build that next hot internal tool, that will see wide adoption.(will not adopt a competing product or contribute to a competing product because you want your product to win), it is the price to pay to have highly dynamic tech space.

Advice to Management

Nothing, From what I see, you already know what to do, and moving things in the right direction
