What does a Technical Manager do?

Technical managers provide companies a competitive edge by aligning computer information systems with their business operations. They oversee all computer technical matters and manage information technology support teams; they may also be called upon to implement computer network security protocols. Technical managers collaborate with a technology development team and users to enhance the system’s performance and complete jobs on time. They perform analyses on CIS efficiency and integration and report to management on CIS development, implementation, and its progress

Technical managers collaborate with development teams and departments and incorporate user feedback into the systems and ensure CIS innovation and implementation occur at a timely and efficient speed. They manage support teams, evaluate performance metrics, and oversee CIS user testing and adjustments. They hire and train new IT department staff and maintain computer network infrastructure while ensuring networks remain secure. Technical managers need a minimum bachelor's degree in computer information systems, management information systems, or related fields.
