What does a Data Modeler do?

Data modelers are computer systems engineers responsible for designing and implementing data modeling solutions using relational, dimensional, and NoSQL databases. Working closely with data architects, they develop bespoke databases utilizing a mixture of conceptual, physical, and logical models. Their solutions streamline and support enterprise information management.

Data modelers analyze and translate business needs into long-term solution data models by evaluating existing systems and working with a development team to create conceptual data models and data flows that address their needs. They develop best practices for data coding, ensure consistency within the system, and review modifications of existing cross-compatibility systems. They troubleshoot and optimize data systems and evaluate implemented systems for variance discrepancies and efficiency. Data modelers need a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related fields.
