Construction Estimator Overview

What does a Construction Estimator do?

Construction estimators examine and estimate the work of particular construction projects. They conduct this estimation by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and other related key documents and explore them to gain a deeper understanding of a project and its requirements. To compute the cost of a project, they estimate labor, material, and time requirements. They select, measure, and track important metrics for the project and visit sites, warehouses, and other venues they need to make the estimate.

Construction estimators perform complex analysis of the data and metrics they have collected and use this information to prepare relevant and reliable forecasts for their clients. They create reports for upper management and analyze and evaluate offers. They also conduct complex risk analysis activities and build and maintain long-standing relationships with primary and key vendors for their projects. Construction estimators need a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction science, or related fields.
