What does an Applications Support Analyst do?

Applications support analysts oversee the installing, configuration, and implementation of computer applications. They evaluate an organization’s existing software and application setup and identify areas for potential improvement by making application changes. These analysts make recommendations as to the selection and customization of applications to best align with user needs and high-level goals related to budget and productivity. They provide ongoing assistance for application users, including troubleshooting problems and resolving issues.

Applications support analysts typically have a bachelor’s degree in a computer science field, or a technical degree/certification combined with equivalent professional experience. They often will have previously worked in tech support, as an applications specialist, or in another related role. These roles require expertise in installing, implementing, and troubleshooting software applications. These analysts must have excellent communication and customer support skills.
