Uxbridge, England (UK)

Former Employee – worked at Xerox UK full-time for less than a year

ProsFriendly long-serving employees from better times at Xerox

ConsCompany lacks the family feel with lack of leadership leaving staff to paddle their own canoes. IT Projects face a wall of heavy 'waterfall' bureacracy and powerpoint culture, while many other companys are moving to agile methods and less bureacracy. Offices are aged and/or cramped in Uxbridge. US noticeably better staff resourced than EU which is cut to the bone (marrow).

Advice to Senior ManagementToo many long service yes men in middle management, typical of old corporations.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

London, England (UK)

Former Employee – worked at Xerox UK as an intern for more than a year

ProsSupportive team who tries their best to give you a better understanding of UK tax
They understand you are on placement and don't expect you to work more then your contract hours
You get direct involvement and responsibility with tax compliance work

ConsDull working atosphere, everyone is very focused on their laptops throughout the day
No clear direction in terms of development/progression
Many of the tasks were generally quite repetitive without much variation or challenges
At times, the managers struggle to find enough work for you

Former Employee – worked at Xerox UK full-time for more than 7 years

ProsCompany pay was reasonable but people who had been there in the good years where getting paid better for the same job. Enjoyed the people I worked and it is a pleasant place to work.

ConsStuck in the past which has been said before, I had a customer facing role and the company issued phone was Nokia 3310. Not much work life balance, culture of work through lunch and after hours with no overtime reward or time in lieu. Very little communication outside your region of work so you could possibly be working on a similar project/ account as someone in the same country let alone globally so not much knowledge sharing. Lack of direction in the past few years who knows where the company is heading. All training cut back to almost nothing in past 2 years.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo much middle management and dead wood. Need to start walking the talk when it comes to technology.

Uxbridge, England (UK)

Former Employee – worked at Xerox UK full-time for less than a year

ProsCanteen
Some really nice people - usually newbies like I was. Or 3rd party providers

ConsOld fashioned approach to work
Lack of vision, strategy, energy
No desire to change
People have been there too long and know nothing else so fresh ideas or new company direction is impossible to foster
People hide from work
Meetings galore with no real outcomes or actions
Lacklustre management - don't invoke confidence
Questionable skill sets - some management have no clue and demonstrate their lack of knowledge with alarming confidence
Some people are utterly inert
Old timers don't share their knowledge

Advice to Senior ManagementA new broom sweeps clean. Get rid of the dead wood and get into the 21st century before your competitors eclipse you

Former Employee – worked at Xerox UK

ProsManagement do show appreciation of good work
Management are respectful of their subordinates
Very friendly work atmosphere and having an onsite canteen generally means that group lunches are the norm. You do end up building genuine friendships with your colleagues (strengthened by after work drinks and nights out in town).

ConsCould take a while for progression to take place
Very bureaucratic so a lot of inefficient work streams exist
Slightly antiquated mode of working (then again we are talking printers!)

Advice to Senior ManagementA bit of fresh talent is needed and more modern work methods should be introduced. Less bureaucracy would help a lot.

Current Employee – been working at Xerox UK

ProsXerox has good products and if you push hard, there is enough depth to the business to produce variety to your role.

ConsManagement are slow to foster change and there is a heavy culture of making-do. It's not dynamic and it so could be.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand that middle management are not dynamic or enthusiastic in any way which adversely impacts the workforce. Low morale abounds.

Current Employee – been working at Xerox UK

ProsXerox UK is a good place to work. The customer value proposition is strong with a broad range of innovative products. The environment is extremely results oriented and be prepared to work very hard to achieve these high expectations.

ConsThe culture is extremely beurocratic so don't expect things to be done quickly. The employees are so buried in their own work they are reluctant to assist you in most situations, and don't expect anyone to answer their phones either. Some of the employees have been their since year dot and innovation and creativity is hardly encouraged.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees and more importantly - your customers.
