Great Company, fun to be part of the magic

I have been working at Walt Disney Company full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

An inspiring company to work for with amazing co-workers to learn from. Opportunity to move and work within different business units. Great benefits, RRSP matching, yearly Theme Park passes and Disney Store discount. Flexible vacation policies.

    Cons

Leadership upheavals and restructuring every 3-5 years, which greatly impacts department structure and creates an unstable and stressful working environment.

I worked at Walt Disney Company (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Making Magical Moments for the guests

    Cons

Making the magic usually took 70 to 80 hours a week for only 40 hours of pay. Upper management is so tenuous that one bad leader can destroy your career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To VPs make yourself available to your director level direct reports without their involvement you're only getting what the directors want you to hear let the direct reports know they can come to you without retribution or retaliation from their leaderfor most of you I'm sure it will be a big wide eye opener

    Pros

Great team of people who are willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Excellent compensation and benefits.

    Cons

Very little to no training for new staff. Too much interference from senior management who do not let their team do their jobs. An environment where you always have to CYA.

I worked at Walt Disney Company as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

A worldwide entertainment phenomenon, Disney is one of the best possible employer names to associate with your career for future employment. The portfolio of brands is second to none, and Disney has a proven track record of creating magical consumer experiences. The culture is very fun and energetic, and the people are as cheerful and fantastic as you would imagine. Pre-screenings, toy sales, and other perks abound as it is quite a glamorous employer.

    Cons

The compensation as an intern was quite poor, as they know they don't need to pay fair wages to attract top talent. Also, the opportunities for career growth in the Canadian office were almost non-existent as it was already a lean structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find more opportunities to retain new talent with a rotational graduate program or more structured employee evaluations at the end of internships.
