    An...Interesting Experience

    Walmart Cashier (Current Employee)

ProsYou can move up in the company / there are many opportunities in the company, 10% discount, you get paid.

ConsPoor training, management not interested in employee well-being, special treatment for some employees (can have no-shows, not wear a badge), many of the managers are condescending or rude, managers forget about (or ignore) availability and employee work contracts, difficult to find managers, Walmart values (respect for individual, etc.) are ignored, always short-staffed.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to employee concerns, treat employees as humans, don't act better than employees, hire more staff (and for the right departments).

Some of the managers were amazing, but most were power-hungry and didn't care at all about you.

Deli Associate (Former Employee) Sylvan Lake, AB

ProsSome of the people you can work with are amazing. If you get a good manager, the opportunities to grow are endless.

ConsThe wage is atrocious, and even though head office promotes a good atmosphere and "living better" all they care about is the bottom line.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart caring about your staff and keeping them happy. Morale is important.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good people in the past but lately it seems to be more for the money then for the customer satisfaction.

    INSTOCK (Current Employee) Calgary, AB

ProsGood friends, great community relations, good company benefits and for the most part good work-life balance.

ConsTraining not always available to those who need it. Those who want to advance are not always allowed to. In some cases it was a cultural or race desrimination.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up before you lose your best people. Before you have a law suit on your hands!

    Summer Job - Electronics

    ConsBoring, routine, sometimes it's disorganized.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter organization would be nice.

    Shipper/Receiver

    Shipping/Receiving (Current Employee) Edmonton, AB

ProsNot a bad health plan. But even that is slowly being eroded away. The only good thing you could say are some of the people are great to work with

ConsLackluster pay (but then you already knew that), A management team that is increasingly placing importance on curbing expenses instead of seeing a wage as an investment.

Advice to Senior ManagementRelax. Continuing to cut wages is only going to leave you with people who feel trapped and don;'t think they can find another job. Do you want your entire workforce to consist of these folks?

    Abusive, demeaning management

    Truck Unloader (Current Employee)

Pros-- You're given a small pay increase for every year of relevant experience on your resume.
-- Fairly easy to get hired due to the high turn-over.
    -- Fairly flexible scheduling.

Cons-- Managers are condescending and appear to take an "Us vs. Them" attitude with lower-level employees.
-- Unloading trucks can be extremely exhausting over 8 hours and the management will at timesbelittle the speed of those doing it, or attempt to show them up by giving a two-minute demonstration of how quickly they can go.
-- Performance reviews are generally scored in a way that employees won't receive raises.
-- Hours will be drastically cut for full and part time employees during certain parts of the year, in order for management to achieve certain bonuses. This can make it difficult to live, especially for full-timers.

Advice to Senior Management-- I would like to see further amounts of empathy from management and understanding of their employee's situations.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
