Former Employee – worked at University of Waterloo full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – I completed my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. I earned a NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship (35,000) for 3 years. The University topped this up 10,000. CS also has an internal scholarship (Cheriton) which is another 10,000. Generally, if you can get NSERC (very competitive), you should be able to get a Cheriton (competitive) as well. Finally, the school allows you 3 TAs/year on top of this (or your advisor can buy you out): ~7000. The 55K is tax free and the 7K is taxed (but under the basic exemption amount), so it is equivalent to a mid-70K taxed job.
Cons – A lot has been written about the drawbacks of doing a PhD. I am not addressing these. If you have already chosen to do one, then consider Waterloo.

Former Employee – worked at University of Waterloo as an intern for less than a year
Pros – I like the University of Waterloo because of the environment and the people. It's a really good place to do an internship as a student. I feel I am valued as a team member in my department. My supervisors are very nice to me and are always available to help when needed.
Cons – I didn't notice any downside while working there. As long as you are comfortable living a smaller city and academic environment, it should be fine.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
