    Pros

It's an institute of higher learning, so the atmosphere is great - generally nice people, beautiful surroundings. Good benefits - spouse / children reduced tuition, nice amount of vacation, health insurance is well subsidized. I'm on the old (better) retirement plan, so I can't speak to the new one.

    Cons

There can be limited advancement opportunities, because a lot of people are fairly entrenched in their positions, and unlikely to go anywhere before retirement. This speaks well of the University, but it can be kind of frustrating. There are certainly opportunities, but one often has to move between departments if you want to get anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Not much advice to give senior administration. Salaries are low relative to the private sector and other state Universities, but the state government is funding the university system at a pretty low level and constantly withholding or threatening to withhold funding. Advice to Missouri legislature, recognize the value of higher education - it benefits the students directly but has tons of secondary and tertiary benefits throughout many sectors of the state economy.
