A lot of resources and help is over there.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at University of Missouri

ProsBeautiful campus, nice and warm-hearted staff. Historic buildings, great community. Very international-studenet-friendly.

ConsEmail system needs update. I have missed tons of important mass emails. One of them was to tell me my diploma was going to be mailed back to my country internationally unless I changed the address. I did not get that email, you know the rest of the sad story.

Decent first job, just don't stay too long

Web Designer (Current Employee)
Columbia, MO (US)

I have been working at University of Missouri full-time for more than a year

ProsNot very stressful, decent benefits, fun environment, varying project types, ability to take control of larger projects to build portfolio.

ConsPay isn't anywhere near industry standards, slow-paced environment that leads to boredom at best, and decline in skills at worst. You won't often be challenged, and when you are it's usually when trying to do something new. The university doesn't move as slow as government work, but they're not anywhere near as fast as private industry. You will get rusty and become irrelevant in your industry if you stay too long.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay should be competitive and based more on performance to inspire people to work more efficiently. There are so many people who have been working here for a decade or two who literally sit in their office all day and don't do a single thing. It's quite astonishing. Barriers should be removed when it comes to embracing new technologies.
