I have been working at University of Miami full-time for more than a year

    Pros

UM offers pretty good benefits, especially if you or a family member wants to take classes there--you can save thousands of dollars through tuition remission.

    Cons

Like most universities, it is highly bureaucratic and slow to adopt change. Also, it seems like they're trying to prevent people from advancing or moving within the University--HR has instituted policies that make it very hard to apply to other departments, which severely disadvantage employees.

I worked at University of Miami part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My adviser was amazing, but graduate research assistant stipends are pretty low. Most students take on extra work to pay for basic living expenses. The work day is flexible and it's an excellent research institution.

    Cons

Research assistant stipends are low and they hire a lot of adjuncts to teach courses. There is a lot of beaurocratic red tape

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Increase graduate student stipends

I have been working at University of Miami full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some areas are flexible, beautiful campus, access to many activities (lectures, exhibits, etc). Expectations are low - so if you do not like to work, its easy.

    Cons

Culture holds much favoritism toward friends. Nepotism is very prominent, salary is low not many opportunties for growth. rules and expectations are not universal - different rule for different people, areas, depts.

I have been working at University of Miami part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great professors and students to work with. Nice campus. Compensation is good although the living expense here in Miami is also high.

    Cons

I spend most of the time on Marine campus, which is about 10 miles away from the main campus. Sometimes it feels like just a research center instead of university. It is good for research, but meanwhile feels like segregated.
