Current Employee – been working at Universal Health Services full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great coworkers, no overtime, work that makes a difference.
Cons – Average pay, unnecessary business dress code (for my group), little room for advancement.

Former Employee – worked at Universal Health Services full-time for less than a year
Pros – I honestly can't say anything positive about this organization
Cons – Leadership lacks direction and communication abilities. People are treated and expected to act like mind-reading robots.
Advice to Senior Management – Allow the folks you hire to do their job. Be more communicative in providing constructive criticism rather than being destructive.

Former Employee – worked at Universal Health Services full-time for more than a year
Pros – IT is given the latest and greatest tools. Training and knowledge transfer within the team is paramount. The management staff is always available for questions, concerns or suggestions. Job security. Benefits are ok. They embrace the latest technologies. Travel to remote locations within the US. Large IT staff if you include all of the facility staff.
Cons – Heavy workload and somewhat understaffed at corp.
Room for advancement.
Salary level below baseline for position, but I knew this going in.
Advice to Senior Management – It's ok to promote from within.

Current Employee – been working at Universal Health Services full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The industry is booming even as the economy is not. There's always a certain level of job security when the demand for the type of healthcare services you provide is only going to continue to grow.
Cons – Divisional and Corporate department heads come in to make changes even if the current system you are using is successful.
Advice to Senior Management – See an employee as a face with a skill set, not an FTE. If you are going to make a departmental cut, do so to an individual based on work performance, not on how long someone has been employed. Lay-off dead weight that's been employed for 5 years, not a bright, innovative, and talented employee just because they are inside their 90 day period.

Former Employee – worked at Universal Health Services full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – It stayed on top of the latest technology within reason. Employees are encouraged to improve processes by utilizing technology and reducing overall cost to the company and the environment.
From an organization perspective I feel UHS is an excellent company with good financials. If you are part of upper management it is very lucrative.
Cons – IS Department morale is low overall. Management is never content with the work that is performed by the teams. Many of us put between 50 and 60 hours on average a week and get little or no merit increase at the end of the year. We are told telecommuting is not allowed, so everyone has to come in the office for 40 hours. However, just about everyone in IT/IS work from home to keep up with the work load past the 40 hours. We are constantly reminded that we are lucky to have a job!
The department/company wasn't always this way. . . Lot has changed in the last 5 years!
Advice to Senior Management – Upper Management has no clue what goes on in the department at least in IT/IS from my experience. Perhaps, they should have conversations with the employees and not just the Directors and VPs.

Former Employee – worked at Universal Health Services full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – I'd like to be able to say some nice things about this company, after all I invested a significant portion of my life here. They have a great benefits program and have done a great job of controlling costs to employees.
Cons – The Kansas City Campus (Two Rivers Psychiatric Hospital) has been in a state of turmoil for over four years and the drama continues. There have been 9 new CEOs of this facility in the last four years. The facility has battled to remain in compliance with State and Federal Regulations, but always seems to fall short. CMS has issued 90-day notices on several occasions, which would end Medicare Fudning and effectively shut down the facility. Several key senior management positions have turned over, leaving a sophomore class of inexperienced leaders.
Advice to Senior Management – Take a hard look at this facility--do you even want to be in this market? Get an electronic medical record system in place. Learn to treat employees like the professionals you'd like them to be. Suggest that the CEO leave his office on occasion and get out among staff.

Former Employee – worked at Universal Health Services full-time
Pros – Loved the people there. They become your family. Hated to leave but I needed more money.
Cons – Make you feel like you're lucky to be there. Not that they are lucky to have you.

Current Employee – been working at Universal Health Services part-time for more than a year
Pros – There is an pportunity to work with a variety of behavioral health populations. Part of the facility is new. Full-time staff can do continuing education hours on company time.
Cons – Management overwhelmed and understaffed. There is bullying in the facility, and managers are inconsistent and often take out frustrations on staff. Pay is low for this market. Caseloads are high and the facility relies on PRN staff to work full-time without benefits. A lot of turnover at the C-level.
Advice to Senior Management – Your employees are people, not interchangeable units of work. Treat us a little better and we'll put up with the low pay - we really do love our patients.

Current Employee – been working at Universal Health Services full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – You get to work with individuals in need and change their lives one day at a time.
Cons – There is no trust within this company.
Advice to Senior Management – Take the time to hear your employees needs and concerns. The people at the bottom are the reason why people love your company and the individuals of the forefront should be heard and acknowledged.
