I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people I worked with were wonderful and were like family. The site promoted employee engagement and the salary was very fair.

    Cons

Too many stringent corporate policies which stifled creativity and innovation. Micro-management takes the joy out of doing one's job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micro-managing and allow the various sites to do what they do best. They don't have to be clones of each other.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you're on the "good" list, IT management supports you well and is more invested in your growth. Generally they're very good about work-life balance, certainly more than on the business side which is more busy during "peak" season (forcing you to work during holidays). Many managers are highly supportive of the individual as a whole.

    Cons

Benefits package and compensation are overall not competitive and are worse if you try to move internally. The poor internal compensation creates environment of discouragement, driving employees to leave the company. Training time is tough to obtain because schedules are project-based. Corporate structure is too rigid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fight more for your employees to promote company loyalty and keep company knowledge within the company. Fight the "corporate policies" not because they're poor policies, which they are, but because the good/great employee deserves better.
