Decent workplace

Pharmacy Tech (Current Employee)
Cypress, CA (US)

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 5 years

ProsDesk job, don't really make contact with patients but depends on your job function. Work is not too overwhelming if you're ably to keep up with an always changing environment. Good benefits and lots of overtime. If you like to work to make extra money it's a plus.

ConsMicro managing happens a lot. Must follow a break and lunch schedule down to the minute. Definitely all about numbers, if you can't keep up you're gone. Mandated overtime can take over your life. Raises are between 0-5%.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Not bad, but not good

Senior Project Manager (Former Employee)
Sunrise, FL (US)

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 10 years

ProsWork life balance, good opportunity to network / build meaningful relationships, investments made in technology

ConsSalary, benefits are at the lower end of what the market pays.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in you your staff who stick with you through the years. Paying someone coming in from the outside more than a top contributor who already works for you is only asking for undesirable attrition.

Long term great company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThis is a huge company, with lots of opportunity for career growth and lots of resources. Benefits are good, and the company is in the midst of a wholesale cultural revolution which is really getting a lot of attention and meaningful application. There is a real desire to build on the culture and the people. In good years, compensation is excellent, and for top performers there are numerous recognition opportunities.

ConsHealthcare is evolving, with a lot of pressure on the benefits side of the business which can lead to cost pressure. Every year there are cost reduction measures, including layoffs which can be a distraction. This is an enormous enterprise, so it can be hard to find your way among all the different groups and teams at first.

Lay off after three years

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at UnitedHealth Group part-time for more than 3 years

ProsWork from home, great training, decent support. Decent severance package.

ConsEHR was a very nice company to work with until bought by UHG. The only focus was on numbers, factory line kind of work. Monotony was cruel at times. The lay off came to me as a shock especially after they were still playing the screen saver encouraging employees to refer a friend to work at EHR. Still looking for a job as you lose other skill sets due to work from home environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementBeing more open in communication.

Your team will make or break your experience

Senior Business Systems Analyst (Former Employee)

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time

ProsThe title is stating the obvious, but I was in two teams here. The first one was awesome and some really smart people with amazing ideas. I was challenged and enjoyed what I did.

ConsThe second team I was in is the big 'con' while working here. It's hard to pick your team if you're just joining, but eventually you'll find out how people work. This team I was on was full of unhelpful people who didn't want me to disturb them or ask them questions. Hmmmm

Fast paced, constantly evolving work environment.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time for more than 5 years

ProsAvailable capital. National insurer with stable long term outlook. Competitive compensation package. Potential to be a great employer. Company growing at a very fast pace with many jobs available regularly.

ConsLack of consistent vision/strategy/goals. Frequent restructuring and RIF activity make demonstrating progress difficult. Cross-divisional silos remain in some areas, making collaborative efforts difficult.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnhance communication and visibility.
